Age: 27

Occupation: Communications Director for JUNTOS, Immigrants Rights

Location: West Philadelphia, PA

Relationship Status: Single but with a love interest

Miguel was born in Colombia and came to the United States with his family when he was a young child. He grew up undocumented and witnessed his father, cousins, aunts, and uncles get deported. He hasn't seen his father since he was deported 17 years ago. Miguel has channeled his fears and frustrations by becoming one of Philly's leading young voices for immigrant rights, education equity, and human rights. He is the co-founder of one of Philly's only latino-immigrant youth organizations. Miguel is frequently interviewed and photographed by the local news for his heroism and feels pressure to step up his game!

The community is counting on him to step up and be the leader of Juntos. He is perfect for the role because he knows how to relate to Philly's undocumented immigrants since he was one himself for the majority of his life. Philly has had a dramatic rise in deportation and ICE-related issues since becoming a Sanctuary City in 2014. Miguel's service is needed now more than ever.

FASHION: Miguel recently lost 80lbs! His clothes are three sizes too big for him, and he hasn’t taken the time to buy new clothing. He wears “abuelo” boat shoes, dated button-downs, and pilly sweaters

GROOMING: Miguel grew a long beard while he was in the hospital and he isn’t sure what to do with it. He has zero skin care routine!

DESIGN: Miguel lives in a spacious two-bedroom apartment with his close friend. 95% of the furnishings and décor is not his! He spends most of his free time in his sparse bedroom playing video games.

FOOD: The only thing Miguel keeps in his fridge are frozen Lean Cuisines. He would love to learn how to cook and stop ordering take-out cheesesteaks!

CULTURE: Growing up gay and undocumented wasn’t easy for Miguel. He recently came out to his mom during his hospitalization, but has yet to open up to his sister. He wishes he was closer with his sister since it’s just them and their mom around.

EVENT:  Miguel has frequent speaking engagements and appearances all summer long throughout the city.
